Join the Call for Childcare Access in Regional Communities!

Help bring regional families in from the cold.
Bring them IN!

Send an email to community leaders and decision-makers today and  advocate for better childcare in the north and west of SA.
In the federal electorate of Grey, families face the worst childcare access in the country. This impacts children’s development, workforce participation, and the region’s economic growth. Together, we can ensure every family has access to essential childcare services, regardless of postcode.

What will the email say?
Dear decision-makers

I live in the town of "___" and I’m writing to let you know about the lack of childcare options in my community.

In recent months, my council has joined with 22 other councils to form the Regional Childcare Desert Advocacy Project.

This initiative is highlighting that those of us who live in the federal electorate of Grey, also live in Australia’s worst childcare desert.

So many parents in our communities are left out in the cold, unable to work – or travelling long distances – because of a lack of childcare options.

Now, we are asking Governments to invest more in childcare services, and help parents be part of our thriving regional economies.

We are calling for more funding for the SA Rural Care Program and a change to Family Day Care rules to increase the number of educators and children that can be part of a Family Day Care Centre.

We encourage you to look out for the personal stories we are sharing through our social media campaign, that will provide examples of the daily battles and challenges families go through trying to work and look after children.

It’s time to fix this problem. Please help us bring regional families in from the cold.

Your support can make a difference!

What We’re Calling For!

Equitable childcare access for all families

Every child deserves a strong start in life, regardless of where they live. In the Grey electorate, families face significant barriers to accessing quality childcare, leaving many children without essential early learning opportunities. By advocating for equitable childcare services, we aim to ensure that all families, whether in urban centres or remote regions, have the support they need to thrive. This means creating opportunities for children to learn, grow, and develop in safe and nurturing environments close to home.

State and Federal Government collaboration to fund regional childcare initiatives

Tackling the childcare crisis in regional areas requires a united approach. Collaboration between State and Federal Governments is essential to develop sustainable funding models and innovative solutions that address the unique challenges faced by regional communities. By working together, governments can ensure that investments in childcare are targeted to regions where the need is greatest, enabling families and workers to contribute to their communities and the economy without unnecessary strain.

Revisions to Family Day Care rules in regional areas

Family Day Care offers a flexible and accessible childcare option for many families, especially in regional areas where larger centres may not be feasible. However, current regulations often limit its availability and effectiveness. Revising these rules can unlock new opportunities for qualified carers to support families in their local communities, create jobs, and provide much-needed relief for working parents. These changes would enable more families to access quality care while fostering stronger community connections.
